The Mystery of Ofrinio Beach! British Woman Vanishes Without a Trace in Front of Hundreds of Tourists
Shock and mystery grip Kavala and the small resort village of Ofrinio. On August 2, British tourist Michele Ann Joy Bourda, aged 59, vanished without a trace from a crowded beach full of people, sunshine, and music. The time was just after noon, the temperature a scorching 35 degrees, and the sea was calm.
The woman had been lying on a sunbed, leaving her phone, documents, and bag next to her towel. Witnesses say they saw her enter the water, but no one saw her come back out. Minutes later, the sunbed was empty, her belongings untouched.
Panic erupted. Lifeguards raised the alarm, searching the water with boats and divers, but found nothing. Police combed the area, checked hotels, and reviewed surveillance cameras. The result – zero. After ten days without success, the rescue operation was scaled down.
“It’s like a scene from a crime movie – no body, no clues, no witness who saw what happened,” commented local residents, used to summer tourists but not to such dramas.
Several theories are in play. The most obvious – drowning. But where is the body? The sea usually returns drowning victims within 24–48 hours. Another possibility – a voluntary disappearance. Police are investigating whether the British woman had personal or financial problems that might have pushed her to vanish. The darkest hypothesis remains – a crime committed in broad daylight on a busy beach.
Meanwhile, tourists in Ofrinio now look at the sea with different eyes. The beach, once a symbol of carefree fun, is now marked by mystery.
